It is a long weekend with the munchkins here on Payson Road. Daddy took Thursday off, and I will be off Friday and Monday so we have been busy looking for activities. Yesterday was a great trip to the Children's Museum- a little crowded but a great place for the boys to run around and yell and play.
Today we ventured to the Harvard Museum of Natural History- WOW was it cool- dinosaur bones and all, the boys were a little rambunctious for that place but none the less an interesting visit.
A weekend day wouldn't be complete without a visit to Walden Pond for Nap time. Love you boys and here is a to another wonderful year with you in 2012.

Shane 38 Months- December 28, 2011
Dear Shane-
This is the last letter I will write you for 2011, it has been a fast year but a GREAT year! There is a big difference between being two years old and three years old, I wont' get into all of the changes now but I love watching you grow and learn new things every day and night. I remember when you couldn't even crawl and then when you did start crawling you couldn't crawl over the doorway threshold! But now, you are running around the house talking and yelling- catch me Mommy , catch me mommy! of course with a BIG smile on your face!
December has been a busy month for us- as you now know, it is the month that Baby Jesus was born and you like to tell everyone that you meet that you saw the baby Jesus. We saw the baby Jesus at Nana's church during the Christmas pageant and also at the live Nativity Scene in Wakefield. On Christmas day you sang your favorite song to date (Happy Birthday) to the Baby Jesus! I love hearing you sing that song or any song for that matter. You had a few visits to Santa- at the bank in Belmont, the mall and most recently at the Enchanted Village at Jordan's furniture- each time you warmed up to the big S. a little bit more but you still were not 100% excited to be sitting on his lap! That's O.K. you sat there for the photograph and let Jackson do all of the talking to Santa- he didn't say much except that you and Jackson were leaving Santa cookies and carrots for the reindeer- and milk of course milk. On Christmas eve we made cookies for Santa and left out the cookies along with a photograph of you so that he could remember meeting you. Mommy, Daddy and Nana took you to see the lights at the Stone Zoo and you loved running all around there and riding the carousel- of course you wanted to be with Daddy on the carousel but you enjoyed it and waved to mommy and Nana none the less. We visited with Auntie Kim and her 3 boys a bit during the month and you loved playing with Caleb and the boys- in fact you got a little black eye when you were caught in the "pig pile" that was being supervised by daddy- but that's o.k. you had a great time and didn't really get hurt.
Shane you are asking more and more questions every day- Why this, Why that , why why why... You also like to pretend a lot- last month I think you liked to be a Kittie cat, well this week you like playing frog- yes, a frog, you hop around on all fours saying ribit, ribit, ribit..... don't ask me why or who turned you onto Frogs but you like them. We'll have to be sure to tell Auntie Val that since she used to love Frogs. You got some bongos and a glockenspiel for Christmas and have really enjoyed playing them, in fact you had a music parade with Nana the other day in the play room- singing songs and playing instruments!
I love you Shane Kilday- you are such a cuddly little kid- you like to sleep with all of your stuffed animals in the bed, sometimes there isn't room for you in there and then sometimes like this morning you woke up at 6am (which is a good waking time) and crawled into bed with mommy and daddy- Jackson did the same except he kept yelling get up , get up and playing frog. You on the other hand, just cuddled into daddy and went back to sleep. Shane, you are mommy's sun, moon and stars. I love you with all of my heart!

Dear Jackson-
As 2011 comes to a close I am writing you your last "birthday letter" for 2011. I can't believe that you are well over three years old now, Mommy is starting to feel old.
You have had a good month and a busy month! You love your cousins and every morning you ask me the same series of questions. Mommy is Trish coming over? Mommy is Nana coming over? Mommy my cousins coming over? Your cousins mean a great deal to you and you love them very much! We try to talk to them once per week but for you that basically means yelling into the phone: "Zach, you there Zach"- regardless of who you are talking to you only want to talk to Zach. But you are good on the phone, you still enjoy talking to Auntie and Abby, Katie and of course Uncle Chris. On Christmas day we had a treat- Uncle Adam had his iPhone with facetime on it and we were able to facetime with everyone in Ohio- you thought that was super great! We were on that iPhone for almost 45 minutes- you and your brother were shouting all sorts of things into the phone about your new dinosaurs, castles and police jacket (that you got from Auntie and Uncle Chris). You are so happy on the phone, well most of the time you are happy!
We did a lot of Christmas activities this month to celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus. First off, you and your brother now have your own Nativity Scene- it is plastic- which is great because sometimes you and Shane (mostly Shane) like to throw the Baby Jesus across the room. We saw a live nativity scene in Wakefield on night but it was VERY VERY Cold and you were mostly interested in the animals. We made cookies- lots of cookies for Santa and you liked to help and decorate those cookies! In school you made all sorts of Holiday crafts and for Christmas you made a beautiful piece of artwork made out of old frames that you glued onto a board (or I suspect the teacher glued onto the board for you). We visited Santa a few times, I think your favorite was at the Enchanted Village at Jordan's Furniture- I"ll post some photos later. You were all smiles in that photo- then we had lunch at Ikea and then boom- you were out like a light in the car. This year we made it to the Stone Zoo Lights and it was magical- the entire zoo was covered in lights and you and your brother ran all around and especially liked the carousel ride ( you rode it twice). Daddy went on with you both times and Nana and I took turns but when I was with you each time we circled around Nana you would yell "HI NANA" to her and smile and wave- you are a precious little guy Jackson! We did lots of other Holiday celebrations this month, I won't write them all down here but one other night that you had lots and lots of fun at was Mommy's birthday. I know, Mommy's birthday is not that exciting.... but Auntie Kim and the boys came over to Nana's house for cake and you had a BLAST! The five of you boys just jumped around on top of each other and went crazy! Shane got a black eye and you bruised your forehead but you didn't complain. In fact the next day you asked if Auntie Kim and the boys were coming over.
Jackson, Jackson , Jackson what else can I say. You are getting to be a big boy and do big boy things- like sit on the pottie (Well you do that for Trish) drink out of regular cups most of the time and listen, you are getting much better at listening to mommy. This morning you were working hard on puzzles- Auntie Val and Uncle Terry gave you a HUGE cookie monster puzzle and you like to work on that a lot!

Birthday parties in the dining room
Mommy tries to keep the dining room a sacred, clean, kid free space in her home. It is full of breakable dishes and I would rather that the dishes remain intact. Well, Jackson and Shane have a keen sense for this type of stuff and love to play in the dining room. There is a closet that they can hide in and chairs that they can re-arrange. Last night, they had a "birthday party" in the dining room and moved all 12 chairs against the windows for their "friends". But their "Friends" liked to jump from chair to chair while singing happy birthday. You can imagine, how mommy was at this site- not reacting very well and trying to get the boys to calm down and put the chairs away resulted in them getting play dishes out and setting the table complete with cookies and pizza for everyone. To their benefit- they were using their imaginations and had a great time and Shane did a great job of cleaning up.

One More Visit with Santa
We had one more visit with the Big Guy this weekend at the Watertown Mall. The boys were very excited to go see Santa but when we go there they were very quite and didn't say a peep. Here they are with Santa, Shane is holding the goldfish.
The baby Jesus
While we have not been avid Church goers recently, I have been trying to teach the boys what Christmas is about- the birth of the baby Jesus. We went and saw a live Nativity scene in Wakefield, I got the boys a playschool toy nativity scene and then yesterday we went to Nana's church for the Christmas pageant.
It was a cute play and the boys had a good time- of course they yelled in the middle of the play "Hi Nana" once they spotted Nana behind the organ! We didn't stay for the entire service as mommy was getting nervous that the boys were disrupting everyone but at least they saw the baby Jesus again.

Zoo Lights
Friday night we went to the Stone Zoo to see the lights. Both Jackson and Shane are really into the lights this year, we like to drive around and look at all of the houses decorated but this was up close lights and displays! I have never seen so many cars at the Stone Zoo parking lot. We went through certain parts of the zoo, most animals were inside except for the owls- you could see them sleeping on the branches. Shane tried to wake them up by yelling Hoo Hoo at them but he was unsuccessful. We brought the stroller with us and the boys were in and out of that thing all night but it was good to have instead of carrying them.
At the end of the lights display were some rides: the boys went on the jeep ride and the carousel- they liked the carousel so much we went on it twice!

Pretend play
We just spent 45 minutes playing with dinosaurs. Building houses for them and looking through books to identify the names of the various creatures. I know this is how kids play every day, but sometimes it just hits me that it is so awesome to watch them learn and develop. While we were coloring daddy told Shane to let snowball color and Shane stopped for a moment and then said, but daddy- Snowball doesn't have any hands...........

The Live Nativity Scene
Today was a "daddy day" full of fun times- going to the indoor play gym (winter has struck- it was 34 degrees today) and to Friendlys for lunch. Tonight, however, mommy wanted to start a family Christmas tradition- going to a live nativity scene. There was one in Wakefield- it was beautiful and full of angels, and animals but it was cold out! We lasted about 20 minutes and then it was time to leave- after the boys saw Baby Jesus all they were interested in was the animals and some kids soccer ball that they found. But it was a good first introduction into the baby Jesus and the meaning behind Christmas.

Decorating the tree
I"m looking at the Christmas card photo from 2008- the year that Shane and Jackson were born, they were just a few weeks old when we plopped them both in one swing with Christmas hats on! And now at three years old they are decorating the tree themselves (well kind of). Nana came over yesterday for a tree trimming- we had China Moon for lunch and then decorated the tree. I thought if I put all of the non-breakable ornaments in a bin the boys could just take them out and hang them on the tree. That worked for about 2 minutes then the boys were more interested in taking the ornaments OFF the tree. Daddy took a nap and we decorated and re-decorated the tree. Jackson was really into it for a while, Standing on the chair and climbing all over the place, I think the tree looks great, I"ll post photos later!
When we were going to bed, the boys remembered from last year (Honestly, I didn't say a peep about it) that the snowmen have to lay down and go to sleep when we go up stairs. So the boys laid all of the snowmen to bed on our way up the stairs and this morning we woke them all up.

Belmont Center Christmas tree lighting
Tonight was the Christmas tree lighting in Belmont Center, both Shane and Jackson have been very interested in Santa this year- Shane likes to walk around yelling Merry Christmas, and Jackson yells Ho Ho Ho. Tonight, we saw Santa- Shane was a little nervous but Jackson jumped right onto his lap without issue. Neither of the boys understand that Santa brings presents, they just wanted to see him so after a great supper at Stonehearst Pizza, photos with Rudolph, playing in pretend snow ( you'd thought we lived in CA. with the fake snow coming down around the bank),......we got to see Santa! The boys each colored a Thomas picture for Santa as well.

Shane 37 months
Dear Shane-
You are now officially a pre-schooler, you are three years old and one month! Oh my, how quickly time flies. You are flourishing my little guy and while you are saying more words and being more independent you are still very much a daddy's boy- you want daddy for everything and if you can't see Daddy you get very upset (even if mommy is right there). But I know that you love your daddy and he loves you so I guess in the long run that is all that matters.
Your imagination Shane is getting greater every day. You have started to watch a little T.V. during the week and you like Barney- you ask all sorts of questions, like where does Barney come from? What is Barney etc. ? You love to play and be a lion- you run into the room and jump and yell Roar- I a lion! You continue to play really well with your brother (for the most part), last night a package came from Amazon and you and Jackson played in the box for about 30 minutes. You, my little Shane are very affectionate towards your brother and are always giving him hugs and kisses. last night you were saying- its o.k. Baby, I take care of you and then you would give him a hug inside the box- it was very cute to watch and listen to.
This month Auntie and your cousin Zach came to visit. Just like Jackson, you were all over Zach all of the time and would not leave him alone, anything that Zach did , you wanted to do also- even if it was jumping up and down on one foot- you would copy Zach and jump up and down on one foot.
You seem to really love the music and anytime there is music playing on the radio you start to dance. You have really good rhythm and you smile. Sometimes you hold my hands and we have a little dance party- just you and me! I need to look into getting you enrolled into some music classes since you love it so much.
The other thing that you have stated to do is jumping on our bed with your brother. The two of you now love playing upstairs and especially in our room- last night you took all of the sheets off the bed to jump around on it. Mommy tries to keep the gate to the 3rd floor closed but Daddy likes to leave it open so you and your brother can meander throughout the entire house- you love it up there.

Jackson 37 months
Dear Jack-
Today I will call you Jack because that is what I sometimes call you at home and Daddy often calls you Jack Jack. I like the name Jack but certainly love the name Jackson, Jackson Reid.
You have had a busy month my friend- Auntie and Zach came out for a visit- your cousin Daniel was getting married and Zach was in the wedding so you were able to play with Zach for 2 days! Nana took you all to Brighams and Zach ordered a hamburger and wouldn't you know, you ordered a hamburger as well! You have never had a hamburger before that day but since Zach had one, you had to have one. You and your brother were all over Zach- you loved to wrestle with him and play blocks and just do everything with him. We had a great time at the park playing kick the ball and you were such a joy! You are always a joy my little Jackson Reid.
This month was the first night that daddy was ever away from you- we had to go to CT. for Daniel's wedding and we stayed over. Trish stayed with you and you were fine but I think Daddy had a hard time being away from you.
You are becoming more independent and want to help with everything! You drag chairs and stools around the kitchen to help me all of the time, sometimes you are a great help and then other times not so much! Dr. Yogman switched you over to regular kids vitamins and you love them!You wake up asking for a vitamin- not so sure if this is a good thing or not but you eat them regardless which is important.
Christmas is coming and boy are you excited about that. You understand that Santa is coming to your house and that he says HoHoHo, so you continually ask if Santa is coming tonight? And I say, no sweetie, Santa is coming soon. Then Jackson says- soon? o.k. Mommy Santa is coming tonight? and we go on like this for a while. I am excited to see your little face on Christmas morning.

You and your brother were all over Zach- you loved to wrestle with him and play blocks and just do everything with him. We had a great time at the park playing kick the ball and you were such a joy! You are always a joy my little Jackson Reid.
This month was the first night that daddy was ever away from you- we had to go to CT. for Daniel's wedding and we stayed over. Trish stayed with you and you were fine but I think Daddy had a hard time being away from you.
You are becoming more independent and want to help with everything! You drag chairs and stools around the kitchen to help me all of the time, sometimes you are a great help and then other times not so much! Dr. Yogman switched you over to regular kids vitamins and you love them!You wake up asking for a vitamin- not so sure if this is a good thing or not but you eat them regardless which is important.
Christmas is coming and boy are you excited about that. You understand that Santa is coming to your house and that he says HoHoHo, so you continually ask if Santa is coming tonight? And I say, no sweetie, Santa is coming soon. Then Jackson says- soon? o.k. Mommy Santa is coming tonight? and we go on like this for a while. I am excited to see your little face on Christmas morning.

Thanksgiving Weekend
We are Thankful for everything, especially our family and good health! We had a great Thanksgiving at Uncle Adam's and Uncle Dave's house. The boys fell asleep on the way over there so we let them sleep in the car and when they woke up- watch out- they were a bit cranky- in fact Jackson lied down in the middle of the kitchen floor to "rest his eyes", but after a bit of playing with the dogs and going to the park they were in in full swing again. Both Shane and Jackson had a great time on the stairs at the Uncle's home, in fact they loved going down stairs and playing with Uncle Dave as he cleaned up. Dave gave them Breakable glasses with some bubbly water and animal crackers and the boys sat at the end of the island ready to play with the water for about 30 minutes!
On Saturday we played with Aiden at Beaver Brooke then went to Auntie Kim's house for a fall celebration with Kim and Cheryl's families. All afternoon Jackson continued to ask "we go to auntie Kim's house now? " and when i pulled into Nana's driveway he threw a fit but calmed down when I told him we were going to Kim's. Auntie Kim had birthday cupcakes for the boys. They loved signing Happy Birthday!

We also visited the Decordova Sculpture park- it was an interesting place, the boys weren't too into the art but liked trying to climb on the sculptures. Sunday was a daddy day- they went to the park with Daddy and then Jackson stayed home with mommy while Daddy and Shane went grocery shopping. I have to say that it was weird only having one of them at home, it was rather quite and we were a bit at a loss at first without Shane there but finally Jackson decided to color and we played lots of music and read lots of books. Daddy rocked that Sunday. We finished off the Sunday by raking leaves with daddy! (a favorite past time for the boys).

Bunnies and Sharing
Both boys were upstairs this morning while I was getting ready for work. They were playing in the hall and in the guest room. When I went into the guest room they had taken the sheets off the bed and said the bunnies did it. Jackson even showed me the bunnies!
Jackson put the sheet over his head and pretended to be a ghost.
While Shane was playing with a toy, Jackson was very quick to come to me and tell me that Shane was not sharing. Of course, when I asked Shane to share he did so very graciously.
We lost power last night and lit our first fire in the house ever. We don't have a fireplace screen yet so it was not a good idea to do, especially since Jackson was enamoured with the fire. Shane stayed on the couch but Jackson was right there with the fire. When the lights came back on we put the fire out due to fear.

telephone call to Auntie and Zach
Last night in the throws of making dinner and daddy at the stove I bribed the boys with a phone call to Ohio to get them out of the kitchen, it worked. We called Ohio and no joke- i think Jackson and Shane stood there yelling into the phone "Zach, Zach, Zach" and said little else. Jackson tried to show Zach his story land badge and Shane was showing him dinosaurs- of course Zach can't see these through the phone but none the less they kept yelling his name and showing him things. I think Zach was a little tired of if by the end.
This morning Jackson woke up at 4:30! and wanted to go downstairs because Auntie Kris was coming- no joke- he said on his own, Auntie Kris! Kris and Zach will be at the house in a little bit I expect while I am at work, but we'll see them at the wedding.

Imaginations and tool belts
We had a GREAT night last night! The boys put their tool belts on and helped Daddy change out some light fixtures. They got their stools and belts and held the items that Daddy gave them very tightly, at one point Shane was holding onto Daddy's leg so that he wouldn't fall.
We had a great game of blocks and magnet blocks- Daddy was creating amazing shapes and structures and Jackson liked to knock them down. While it sounds a little destructive it was a great time. We'll send out some photos later this week.

busy boys need to be entertained all of the time!
I'm sure like many three year olds, my boys, Jackson and Shane need to be entertained a lot. They play very well by themselves for a while and then bamb for no reason other than because all hell can break lose and they go crazy. My question from this weekend is what to do all day every day with pre-schoolers! No, I don't think that they are toddlers anymore, I do consider them pre-schoolers. We definitely go out every day and we go some place every day but every second of every day can't be someplace else? or can it? I admit it boys, yesterday was the first day that I HAD to put the T. V. on- we watched Winnie the Pooh. You were going crazy we were raking leaves, but you weren't listening and were playing in the street; then the guys were there painting the house and you kept wanting to touch the paint- it was all good in nature- you truly wanted to help but it was not helping. So when we came inside you were crying and yelling and I didn't know what else to do except put a movie on. Daddy and I have tried very hard to keep the T.V. off limits but I am now convinced that there is a time and place for it.
I almost turned it on this morning when you woke up at 4:45 am! and wouldn't let daddy sleep but I resisted and instead Dealt with the crying and yelling that comes along with Daddy being upstairs and Shane being down stairs. Our poor neighbors on the first floor- they got an early wake up call today! I love you guys! When i left you were happy as clams sitting at the island playing Play dough with Trish- you weren't that into the play dough when we were playing it this morning, but what ever, you were smiling and laughing and asking me to roll out the dough so that you could make dinosaur shapes and that made me happy.

Raking Leaves
After our October snow storm, fall is in the air. We have had guys working on the house this week which has been quite entertaining for Shane and Jackson. However, today the leaves were the entertainment. We rakes and bagged leaves, or tried to. The boys thought it was more fun to dump the leaves out of the barrel! instead of keeping the leaves inside the barrel. My job was to keep everyone on the sidewalk and we were successful with that.
After a nap in the car, we visited with Nana and played at Robin Hood Park. A good time was had by all.

Imaginations: what is in the pantry?
This morning there were a lot of things happening in the pantry. The boys motorcycles from Grandpa were in there and they started going through the recycling bin for what I don't know. Well according to the boys, they found animal food- and started to rummage some more through the empty containers. The boys played Dogs and made barking sounds. Then there were the kitties up on top of the shelve. All of this while there were guys outside scraping the house (the guys were real). It was an exciting morning before school.

Jackson 3rd Birthday
Dear Jackson- You are now three years old! Happy Birthday Buddy. I can't believe you have been with us for three years. Not only are you getting tall but your words are flourishing. You love to talk and you talk all of the time. Your listening skills have gotten so good and you get stickers every day for such good listening!

Shane - 3rd Birthday
Dear Shane-
I am writing you a letter for your three year old birthday! Happy Birthday little guy! I can't believe that you are three, you have been alive for 36 months! I love you Shane Kilday.
Your words are coming along perfectly and sometimes when you talk you blink your eyes a couple of times and it is very cute to watch. You love balloon and most recently have had balloons from your birthday, Friendly's and the Bank and you carry them all around with you, this morning you lined up all 5 of the deflated balloons on the floor and were playing with them.
